    MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) are a recent development in distant learning. They allow access to a very large number of students (going from 1,000 to 100,000 students). The courses have some learning objectives to be achieved by students after certain activities (videos, readings, quizzes, assignments) within a given period of time. The educational resources are freely accessible via the internet and open to everyone. Thus, the participation in a MOOC does not require prerequisites such as possession of a qualification or a level of performance in earlier studies. Most significantly, MOOCs aim to connect learners from across the globe with educators and with each other by providing interactive user forums.

What is the study load and expected time investment?
